WEEKLY WORD

Unadulterated Praise!

"Because your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live. I will lifet up my hands in Your name."

- Psalms 63:3-4

I've had an amazing week, spiritually speaking. Everyday I've been blessed, and God has been speaking to me in a very special way. Last week I blogged about not feeling close to God, and God used that post to reawaken my spiritual life. It's been a WONDERFUL week, and I'm excited about getting to know Jesus better.

Here's an example of what my week's been like:

I sold one of my BlackBerrys on Ebay for $250. I sent it off to the address and the person paid right away. However I got an email from him this week saying that he hasn't received the phone and that his tracking number says it was mailed to the wrong address. Now on my receipt from the post office, it says it was sent to the correct address, so I'm not sure what the mixup was. Anyway, I was feeling really down a bout the whole thing because I wanted to give that money to my brother who's away at school.

Well I started praying that night and put my situation in God's hands. Sounds crazy, but while I was praying, I remembered that I had gotten a rebate check from Sprint (from another BlackBerry I'd bought...I love those phones =) I hadn't seen the check in a while, so I started looking around my room. But I kept hearing that I should check the trash. I ignored it, because there was no way I could have thrown something like that away. I kept looking in my room, but the feeling kept getting stronger that I should check the trash. So I went in the kitchen and checked the garbage, and sure enough...there was that rebate check, protected from the garbage by the envelope it came in.

Needless to say...I'm not really worried about my Ebay transaction. God is taking care of me, just like He always has.

I don't even have anything else to say! My heart is full =)

WEEKLY WORD

So...What Now?

"Oh God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You [as in] a dry and thirsty land where there is no water."

-Psalms 63:1

A little while ago I wrote a blog post on my "stale" hair. Well...my spiritual life is feeling pretty stale as well--this is the first Weekly Word post in weeks!

It's not that I don't love the Lord, or I'm no longer praying or having devotionals. The problem is I've just come off a spiritual high! God came through for me in a VERY difficult time, sustained me when I had no real income, and then gave me an AMAZING job! I've had an amazing testimony, and I've been eager to share it whenever given the chance.

I've had my job for over 8 weeks now, and I feel like ever since God gave me the job, I have been left spiritually stagnant. There's been no growth since then. It's so easy to praise God and worship Him when He's all you have, and when I was poor and jobless, God was all I had left. Now I've been busy with life, and there doesn't seem to be anything for God and I to talk about anymore.

I don't want to maintain my spirituality. I want to grow in grace daily, striving to become more and more like Jesus. I don't want to maintain the status quo of a Christian walk! I want God and I to have a dynamic relationship that doesn't depend on trials and tribulations to keep us close and in constant communication. I was in church yesterday and the sermon gave me confirmation that I need to work harder to keep God at the forefront of my life further develop my relationship with Him.

I'm praying about starting another blog, based solely on my walk (of course I would still blog here!) I've also decided to take my New Year's Resolutions and give them over to God. So now when I don't feel like going to the gym or sticking to my budget, I can pray to God for the strength to exercise or walk away from that cute blouse. I'm going to keep up with the Weekly Word posts and ask God to help me become a better witness for Him.

Wow...just writing here I feel like I've been given a whole new helping of the Holy Spirit! I'm so beside myself--I didn't think I'd feel so much closer to God so quickly. I haven't even done anything yet! LOL. I love the Lord, and I'm so glad He's clearly pleased with what I've decided to do. I'm excited about taking my spiritual life to the next level and no longer relying on what God has done for me in the past.

Isn't God good!

ABCs of Hair Care - 2010 Edition

Hello Feisty Ladies!

When The Feisty House first got started, we did a series on the ABCs of Hair Care.

A = ASSESS your strands

B = BUILD your regimen

C = Consistency is key

It's a new year, and a lot of us may be ready for new hair care regimens, new goals, etc. So we're going to go through the ABCs of Hair Care again, but with some new tweaks based on what we've learned over the past couple of months. Here at The Feisty House, we want to make sure you start 2010 on the right foot!

Before we even get into the ABCs, there are 3 things you should think about before starting the process of embarking on a healthy hair journey:

  1. Products: Do any of the products that you use on a regular basis contain mineral oil or petrolatum? Are you still using shampoos with sulfates (i.e. ammonium laurel/laureth sulfate). If so, prepare yourself to get rid of them, or at least not use them quite as often. Sulfates can be drying to natural hair, and mineral oil/petrolatum coats your hair shaft, preventing much-needed moisture from entering your strands.

  2. Protection: Contrary to popular belief, your natural hair is quite delicate! It only looks "rough and tough." Natural hair must be treated with delicate care if it is to remain healthy. To protect those ends, you may need to incorporate protective styling in your regimen, at least a few days a week. Sleeping on a silk/satin pillowcase and/or in a silk/satin bonnet will also protect your hair from drying out on your cotton pillow. Also, stop combing your hair when it's dry! Trust me, your fingers will learn to make your hair look beautiful!

  3. Planning: Look very carefully at your hair. Study it. You have to know what's wrong with your individual strands in order to appropriately plan for its care. Do you have split ends? Heat damage? Is your hair getting enough moisture? Is your hair protein sensitive? Do you know your hair type? Knowing the answers to these questions will make planning your hair care regimen that much easier.
Now that you've broadly taken a look at the state of your hair, let's move on to A: Assess Your Strands
